Part One: Initial Consultation

Our client, Tara, came to us around July 15th. She found us online and after reading our reviews and seeing our website, she decided to request a quote.

On July 18th, we had our initial consultation on her property where we did a thorough inspection of their existing wood deck.

The existing decking area was worn down and everyone could see it.

We showed them their option, showed the biggest issues with their deck, learned about their budget, and then shook hands on a new, low-maintenance deck.

Some issues with this family's old deck were...

decking
The floorboards were old, the paint was peeling and faded, and most of the boards were cracked and chipped.
railing

The railing was not up to code, and the wood spindles and rails were damaged just like the decking surface.

posts

The wood posts were not up to code. Namely, they were placed directly in the ground, causing them to rot and decay faster.

bent boards

Some of the boards, especially on the railing were bent due to wear and tear. These needed to go.

Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting

After the initial consultation, we helped Tara with a quick 2D sketch for them to understand the dimensions and sizes. The following day we sent over the proposal along with a contract. They chose the materials they wanted (with our guidance), signed the proposal, and we broke ground.

This 2D sketch is something all of our clients get on their initial consultation. It helps them visualize the new deck dimensions and sizes, and moves them forward with at least a plan.

After our first meetup, Tara also got a 3D design of the new deck where they could see the new materials and railing, and how well they would go with their home.

After this, we took care of the building permits, ordering the materials, planning the project, and then we got started.

Part Three: The Time Schedule

James and Natalia were new homeowners on a fix budget, so they didn’t know anything about remodeling. But we made sure everything was clear and transparent at all times, including the schedule.

Jul-Aug

Tara came to us around Jul 15th and got the first proposal on Jul 22. After several change orders, they were ready to start in early October.

October 9th

When all the materials were on the property, we started. On October 9th, we did all the demo and disposal, dug the footings, and started the framing.

Oct 10th-13th

We continued framing the new deck and stairs, and installing the composite decking.

Oct 14th-16th

We finished the framing, decking, railing, and the lighting installation. Job was finished.

All in all, the actual construction for this new deck only took 7 days!

Hard Decks did a beautiful job replacing our deck as well as helping to replace the sliding doors. They were prompt, professional, courteous, and in general a great pleasure to work with. Left a very clean job site at the end of each day and when the work was complete.
